Understanding Air Gun Pellets

A Gamo Pellet is a non-spherical projectile designed to be fired from an air gun. Unlike bullets and shots used in firearms, air gun pellets are specifically designed for lower-pressure environments; airguns typically operate at pressures as low as 50 atmospheres, compared to firearms that operate at thousands of atmospheres. These pellets are slightly undersized to allow for expansion or “obturating” upon firing, sealing the bore and engaging the rifling for optimal stability and accuracy. In contrast, firearms require a higher pressure to force a slightly oversized bullet to fit the bore tightly. Gamo Pellets can be used in smoothbore barrels and are inherently stable, similar to Foster slugs used in smoothbore shotguns.
