Understanding Air Gun Pellets

A Gamo Pellet is a non-spherical projectile designed for use with air guns. Unlike bullets and shots used in firearms, Gamo Pellets are crafted for lower pressure environments, with airguns operating at pressures as low as 50 atmospheres compared to the thousands found in firearms. Airguns use slightly undersized projectiles that expand or “obturate” upon firing to seal the bore and engage the rifling, ensuring accuracy and stability. In contrast, firearms use higher pressures to force slightly oversized bullets to fit tightly in the bore. Gamo Pellets are also designed to be stable in smoothbore barrels, similar to Foster slugs used in shotguns.
